Katie Conlon is an experienced Coach, Trainer, Facilitator, and Consultant based in the Washington, D.C. area. She dedicates her professional energy to helping people, groups, and organizations thrive. A graduate of the Masters in Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) program at the University of Pennsylvania, she also holds a masters degree in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Maryland. She founded The Phoenix Nest, a coaching and consulting practice that helps transform DC-area non-profits, schools, government agencies, and businesses. Katie has served as an Assistant Instructor in the MAPP program at the University of Pennsylvania, and is a regular contributing author to Fulfillment Daily, where she writes about practical and science-based practices to increase well-being in our daily lives.
Her current work as a Consultant, Coach and Trainer draws upon her experience and academic background in counseling, education, and positive psychology. She works as a Trainer and Organizational Development Consultant at the University of Maryland’s Center for Leadership and Organizational Change, in addition to developing curriculum for George Mason University’s Center for the Advancement of Well Being. Her research at the University of Pennsylvania centered on the concept of mattering, in which she explored connections between components of well-being models and people’s sense that they matter (that who they are matters to someone else, and that what they do matters – that it makes a difference to someone). She believes strongly that this sense of mattering is a critical foundation for relationships, and for well-being more generally, and continues to explore this concept in her work.
Katie’s past experience includes a working in the non-profit sector running the volunteer program at Chicago’s Food Bank and years at the University of Maryland working in Student Affairs. During her tenure at the University of Maryland, she taught leadership classes, oversaw several large tutoring programs that place college students in local elementary schools, and trained undergraduate students in becoming change agents.
Katie is passionate about creating a better world by helping people, groups, and organizations thrive and create change around them, particularly during times of transition. Through coaching, training, and facilitation, she works with clients to build habits that help them develop and realize their goals for a more vibrant and successful future.
